Didactic Curriculum
Attending Lectures
Weekly lectures on clinical and basic science in dermatology, taught by full-time and voluntary faculty, designed to provide residents with a comprehensive, broad-based exposure to dermatologic disorders. These lectures are held during dedicated didactic time.
Book Club
Weekly, resident-led lectures and discussions based on selected chapters from the Bolognia textbook. Interactive and low-pressure environment for the residents to teach and learn from one another.
Clinical Kodachromes
Weekly Kodachrome review led by faculty. Residents take turns discussing the differential diagnosis for each case. Faculty discuss the salient features of the disorder. It is an outstanding learning exercise, which serves to sharpen the residents’ observational skills and diagnostic acumen.
Cosmetic Procedural Education
In addition to outpatient cosmetic clinics during the dedicated surgical rotation months, monthly cosmetic hands-on sessions are held for all residents led by cosmetic faculty. Sessions include didactic lectures followed by hands-on demonstrations covering topics from neuromodulators to more complex cosmetic procedures. Additional cosmetic sessions are held annually focused on specialty procedures such as Halo and Fractora among others.
Dermatopathology
Weekly dermatopathology sessions include “unknown” slide review with dermatopathology faculty where residents review dermatopathology findings, pathologic differential diagnosis, and clinical-pathologic correlations. In addition, weekly, faculty-led dermatopathology lectures cover the fundamentals of dermatopathology.
Grand Rounds
Grand Rounds are currently held one afternoon per month, currently virtually. This is an excellent opportunity for residents to present patient cases, as well as, listen and learn from leaders in Dermatology as guest speakers. Various educational themed sessions are held throughout the year including surgical and procedural dermatology, cutaneous oncology, pediatrics, inpatient consult/complex medical dermatology.
Inpatient Consults Rounds
Bedside teaching rounds are conducted weekly led by inpatient consult faculty. Residents have the opportunity to review and describe physical findings and develop their differential diagnoses. The consult resident delivers presentations regarding relevant diseases and therapeutic options.
Journal Review
Monthly faculty-led discussions on important articles in JAAD, JAMA Dermatology, JID and relevant pediatric and surgical journals.
Surgery Lectures and Demonstrations
Lectures and demonstrations covering all aspects of dermatologic surgery are given by faculty. Sessions include suturing labs, hands-on cadaver nail surgery and excision workshops in the anatomy lab under the supervision of surgical faculty.
