Application Information
We are committed to a holistic review process, where an application is reviewed in its entirety with additional consideration of extenuating life circumstances.
How to Apply
The Dermatology Residency Program at NYPH/CUIMC accepts applications only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Incomplete, late, or paper applications will not be considered.
Foreign Medical Graduates must hold a current, valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). This is mandatory for an appointment at the institution as well as for licensure in the State of New York. To receive an application form, contact the ECFMG at 3624 Market Street, 4th Floor, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19104-2685, USA, or 215-386-5900. NYPH & Columbia University ONLY sponsor J-1 Visas.
NYPH/CUIMC Dermatology Residency Program will be matching for 4 residents to start July 1, 2026.
A complete application, received through the ERAS system by September 25, 2024, includes:
- ERAS Common Application Form
- Personal Statement (1-2 pages)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Official Medical School Transcripts
- Dean’s Letter (Medical School Performance Evaluation)
- Three Letters of Reference – from faculty, mentors, or supervisors who know you well and can address your performance. One of these would ideally be from an academic Dermatologist and address your performance in Dermatology and commitment to the study of Dermatology.
- USMLE or COMLEX Scores (a minimum of Step 1 completed). We require applicants to have passed USMLE 1, and encourage but do not require taking Step 2. USMLE scores are only a minor component of one's application.
Applications that are not complete by September 25, 2024, will not be reviewed.
Due to the large number of applications to our program, we cannot offer any feedback on individual applications.
Program Signaling
During this cycle, all applicants who signal our program (either gold or silver tokens) will undergo a holistic review. The number of non-signal applications that we review will depend on the number of applications and signals received and cannot be guaranteed.

Matched Applicants
Applicants who successfully match with the NYPH/CUIMC must successfully complete a broad-based clinical year (PGY-1) in a program, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
All matched applicants must have passed USMLE Step 3 by the time training in dermatology begins.
